Abstract
Analysis of histologic types, age distribution, sex differences, and the locations of 55 cases of the carcinoma of the lungs observed during the 8 years period from the first of 1959 to the end of 1966 were made.
Among the 55 cases of the lung carcinomas, bronchogenic occupied the majority of the cases (87.3 % ). Histologic classification of the bronchogenic carcinoma showed 77.0 % of epidermoid type, 16.7% anaplastic type, and 6 % adenocarcinoma. The average age of overall bronchogenic carcinoma was 50.8¡¾11 with considerable difference according to the histologic types of the tumor; namely, 54.4¡¾8.9 in epidermoid type, 41.5¡¾7.74 in anaplastic type. The sex distribution also showed considerable difference according to the histologic types of the tumor. Overall mate to female ratio of the bronchogenic carcinoma was 4. 5 : 1, while it was 8. 25 : 1 in epidermoid type, and 2 : 1 in adenocarcinoma: The right side of the lung showed slightly higher incidence than the left with ratio of 7 : 3. In both lungs 67 % of the tumor developed in the upper lobes.
